Scientist, Strain Engineering

Bond’s Scientist, Strain Engineering, will have hands-on experience with molecular cloning, microbial strain engineering, and recombinant protein expression, They will play a central role in establishing high-performing strains to produce nutritious animal protein for our pet food recipes. The successful candidate will work closely with the fermentation group. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloning and strain engineering in yeast and fungi systems.
  • Creation & optimization of protocols, and collection & processing data.
  • Protein analytics including protein gel electrophoresis, protein quantification, Western Blot, ELISA.
  • Small molecule analytics, including HPLC, GC, and other instruments.
  • Genomic DNA isolation from various prokaryotic and eukaryotic species and PCR amplification.
  • Clonal verification by colony PCR, restriction digestion, and sequencing data analysis.
  • Expression optimization by various strategies. 
  • Write technical reports, summarize, and present data internally within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Analyze and interpret data and maintain an accurate, comprehensible, current laboratory journal.
  • Communicate results in written and oral presentations.
  • Write procedures and technical reports.

Required Skills/Experience

  • MS or PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, bioengineering or related discipline.
  • 3 years working experience in the biotech industry or academic lab preferred.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with synthetic biology and strain engineering techniques such as:
    PCR, Gibson Assembly, restriction digestion, ligation, and homologous recombination.
  • Experience cloning in P. pastoris, K. lactis, T. reesei, and/or A. niger is preferred.
  • Experience running Real-Time and/or Digital PCR as well as ELISA and/or Western Blot is preferred. 
  • Familiar with analytical procedures (HPLC/GC) is a plus.
  • Innovative and critical thinking.
  • Highly motivated and strong team player with a high degree of independence.
  • Excellent communication skills, time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform routine work with attention to detail.

The successful candidate will work closely with the fermentation group.

  • Familiar with analytical procedures (HPLC/GC) is a plus.
